Description:

Recalculating fatigue

The bearing capacity of this running track located in a steel plant in Bremen is 80 tonnes. Production was stopped following the appearance of cracks in certain overhead cranes. In order to guarantee the continued operations of the overhead crane and the different loads handled using the crane, the client wished to examine the actual fatigue of this overhead crane. The measurements carried out by OSMOS using Optical Strands revealed a clear variation of the neutral axis during the loading of the crane. This information allowed the client to effectively monitor its overhead crane and quickly detect the progress of any anomalies. It thus proved possible to ensure the safety of users working on the site during the monitoring period.
