Description:

Monitoring the pavement during the progress of micro-tunnelling work

To enable the evacuation of waste water, the General Council planned, via the use of a micro tunnel boring machine, to create a waste water collector that would modify the existing sewage network. The client wished to confirm each stage of the creation of underground pipes by monitoring any loosening of the adjacent ground during excavation. The deformations recorded by the Optical Strands put in place along the route of the TBM make it possible to monitor the soil/structure interaction and any changes in the mechanical characteristics of the soil. The results, which can be consulted in real-time, illustrate the loosening of the ground during the progress of the micro-tunnelling boring machine and allow the client to verify that the pavement above is unaffected.
