Description:

Safety arrangements for a historic monument with major cracks

Built between 1352 and 1521, the Gothic Cathedral of Notre-Dame of Antwerp has suffered a certain amount of damage that has worsened in recent years. Despite several restoration projects, damage is visible at the level of the transverse arches and the vaults in the ambulatory between the choir and the apses, which requires the installation of supports. In order to understand how the damage is progressing and provide long-term solutions, the client called upon OSMOS to carry out a detailed stability study. OSMOS technologies identified that the changes in the damage were correlated with variations in temperature and remained within a safety amplitude interval.
